Macedonian traditional picnic in Donnybrook


In anticipation of the New Year and Catholic Christmas celebrations in Australia, thousands of Macedonian families headed up to St Prohor Pcinski monestry in Donnybrook . Here every year on 25 December Macedonians gather together to get away from everyday routine, work and relax in the beautiful open space  This year, according to official information this place was visited by 4000 visitors .
 Mass gathering of Macedonians from all generations in a beautiful festive and relaxed atmosphere , songs and dancing Macedonian gatherings, celebrations and food  give a special mark on what is Macedonian , holidays , religion, tradition ..

About Donnybrook and the Monastery
Kalkallo is best known for the natural mineral springs. Previosly this area was known as Rocky Water Holes , (Rocky Water Holes). At first this place was used  for an overnight stay for those traveling to Sydney by road , mostly due to its natural water reserves .
In October 2005 , the Archbishop appointed Father Gavril as the abbot of the Monastery
With his arrival on January 26, 2006, Saint Prohor Pcinski becomes the first Macedonian living monastery MOC - OA in Australia.
The Macedonian Orthodox Church bought the property in 2002.
Father Gabriel says a community grew around the spring, which he says "is a gift from God and can cure physical illness".
He describes the monastery as an enlightening, cleansing place that is "the heart of spiritual life".
