MT - You are always active in all fields, I believe you already have some new plans, tell us something about that.
Sime - Work is underway on new documentaries about special natural and cultural locations in Macedonia, with the ambition of participating in prestigious international festivals and Oscar nominations.
Co-productions and collaborations for feature films in Serbia, Argentina and the USA are being considered, as well as new seasons of "People and Things" and the expansion of the event "Unite Macedonia".
Sime Mladenovski is a visionary producer and director whose career includes television interviews, documentary epics and international collaborations. His relentless efforts, accolades, and aspirations place him among the most significant media artists in modern Macedonia.
MT: You have many activities in your creative work, what do you combine the most?
Sime - That's right, I am a long-time Macedonian media worker, known for my role as an author, producer and director of television and documentary projects. I am mainly known as the producer and host of the interview series "Faces and Deeds" on TV Sonce, which has been broadcast for 12 years and has been named the best show in the diaspora, and I was named the best producer in the diaspora for 2023 and 2024.
In addition, I am the author and director of a series of documentaries ("Jad", "Beautiful Country", "Happy Valley", "Sad Country"), which were shown at festivals in São Paulo, Moscow, Buenos Aires, Lyon, Zagreb, Niš, Amsterdam, Panama, Detroit, Seattle and others. The people who read MT are well informed about all my work, the successes, but also the challenges in our work.
.MT - What is your latest award?
Sime - Winner of the Mother Teresa Humanitarian Award and the Cvetin Peace Award
MT - The readers are likely curious about the origin of your career, as well as your motivation for joining the media industry to advocate for Macedonia.
Sime - I started my career as a teenager, at the age of 17, through an internship at MRTV with directors such as Stojan Stojanovski, Nikola Novkovski and Tihomir Bachovski, participating in projects such as "Pulsiranja", "Nedelno priprosto", "Bushava Abuka" and "Zvonche".
In the 1990s, I founded the music group "Dance Machine", where I was the lead songwriter and manager, which allowed me to develop my managerial skills by organizing events and promotions throughout Macedonia and beyond.
MT - Tell me something about the series "Faces and Deeds"
Sime - Absolutely, it distinguishes itself from everything else, and I take pride in having developed this series, for which I serve as both the author and principal producer. This series has been broadcast on Sun TV for 12 years and showcases the most significant Macedonian figures from various fields such as culture, art, sports, politics, business, and science.
The show was awarded the best show from the diaspora for three years in a row, and Sime - the best producer in the diaspora for 2023 and 2024.
The project also received recognition from the Institute of the Macedonian Language for the continuous promotion of the language and cultural heritage.
Under the brand "People and Deeds", we suddenly came to launch an initiative for an international poetry event "Unite Macedonia", which unites poets from all over the world and has been receiving an excellent response for seven years.
MT - What has changed so far and how do you increase your rating in "People and Things"?
Sime - In December 2022, we have a new host, Mihaela, who, with her experience and professionalism, increased the rating and our shows are watched with joy.
.MT - Are there any announcements for collaboration with other directors in the country or beyond?
Sime - Yes, we are looking for collaboration with Serbian director Emir Kusturica and other big names from Argentina and the USA, as well as offers to participate in feature films in Serbia.
MT - What about new documentaries?
Sime - In April 2024, we made a new documentary about the beauties of Macedonia, after the successful promotion of the archive recording for "Debarmaal Serenades 2024"
I am the author and director of the documentaries "Jad" and "Beautiful Country", which were shown at festivals in São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lyon, Zagreb, Niš, Amsterdam, Panama, Detroit, Seattle and other places.
In 2021, I co-directed, edited and organized two documentaries "Vesela Dolina" (the beauties of Macedonia) and "Tajna Zemja" (theme of poverty), self-financed and filmed in extreme fields, for which they planned to compete at festivals in Moscow and São Paulo.
My team and I regularly perform at festivals around the world and, although the competition is high and the financing is often private, each new project brings a strong motive to continue promoting the Macedonian genre, culture and tradition.
As a director and member of film crews, I worked with Emir Kusturica on documentary projects, with Bubjošević and Antonijevic in Belgrade, as well as in domestic productions such as "Elixir of Love", "Jgan" and a statistical role in "Third Half".
